Biography

Dr Edington is a skilled ophthalmic surgeon specialising in high volume cataract surgery and dedicated to providing her patients with personalised, high-quality care. She has performed over 5,500 cataract operations including complex cases such as eyes with multiple co-morbidities or previous trauma. She is known for her friendly yet professional approach, and making even very anxious patients feel at ease.

Her ophthalmology journey started at the John Radcliffe Eye Hospital in Oxford, where she was offered a two-year honorary clinical and research fellow post, treating ocular emergencies and developing her passion for research and quality improvement. She excelled at ophthalmology specialist training in West of Scotland Deanery and obtained Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 2019.

After her fellowship in high volume cataract surgery at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Glasgow, she was offered a substantive NHS consultant post there in 2021, and over the next two years achieved excellent visual and refractive outcomes for her patients. Her passion for education led to her being offered the role of Cataract Training Lead; she developed the first, highly successful, immersion training programme in Scotland supporting trainee ophthalmologists in becoming safe and skilled cataract surgeons. Since moving to Leicestershire with her family in 2023, she has been using her excellent surgical skills at Optegra to improve quality of life for patients across the Midlands. She has recently been appointed as Lead Consultant, and operates at Leicester, Nottingham, Uttoxeter, and Birmingham.

Dr Edington has authored multiple publications and has presented her work at national and international level. She holds membership of both European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and United Kingdom and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. She attends regular conferences and courses to keep up to date with newest developments in the field and to ensure that she offers her patients the highest standard of care.
