Biography
Dr Edington is an ophthalmic surgeon specialising in high volume cataract surgery. She
qualified with honours from Warsaw Medical University in 2009. She completed her
foundation training in Oxford, where she first became interested in ophthalmology. She
decided to remain at the John Radclie Eye Hospital for a further two years as honorary
clinical and research fellow to gain experience treating ocular emergencies and further
develop her interest in research and quality improvement. She completed her ophthalmology
training in West of Scotland, receiving numerous prizes and awards, including the SOC Travel
Prize for best research paper, and has authored 21 publications.
In 2021 she accepted a consultant post in high volume cataract surgery at the Golden Jubilee
National Hospital following completion of a fellowship in high volume cataract surgery there,
and has achieved excellent visual and refractive outcomes for her patients.
She is passionate about education- she has GMC trainer recognition, has been an exam
question writer for the International Council of Ophthalmology, is on the Royal College of
Ophthalmologists Skills Faculty, and has organised numerous courses. In 2021 she was
appointed cataract training lead at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital, and developed the
first high volume immersion cataract training programme in a National Waiting Times Center,
which has been highly successful
