How Private Medical Insurance can help with your cataract care
If you have been diagnosed with cataracts, and have private medical insurance (PMI), did you know that this can help fund your private cataract treatment?
We understand that cataracts can make everyday tasks feel difficult, affecting your clarity of vison, independence and quality of life. With private medical insurance (PMI), you don’t have to wait for treatment. At Optegra, we offer swift, expert-delivered cataract surgery with state-of-the-art technology, helping you restore your vision quickly and comfortably.
Whether you are opting for standard private cataract surgery (with a standard monofocal lens) or advanced lens options (such as a multifocal lens) for bespoke cataract surgery, private medical insurance can help.
How does Private Medical Insurance work for cataract surgery?
Do check with your individual provider, but typically standard cataract (standard monofocal lens) is entirely covered by PMI, and for bespoke lens options, PMI contributes and you pay an uplift fee.
We have a wide range of high-quality lens options to correct astigmatism and also help reduce spectacle dependency for the rest of your life.
To take advantage of this, all you have to do is provide us with your private medical insurance membership number and reach out to your medical insurance provider to get an authorisation code. We can then take care of everything for you.
Following your surgery, Optegra provides comprehensive after care, including medication and eye drops required in relation to the cataract surgery we delivered. This is provided at no extra cost within the timeline of package of care.

What’s included with Private Medical Insurance for cataract surgery at Optegra?

Private Medical Insurance FAQs
In contrast to the public healthcare system (like the NHS), Private Medical Insurance (PMI) is a type of health insurance that covers the cost of private healthcare, allowing policyholders to receive treatment more promptly. Depending on your policy, private medical insurance can provide quicker access to specialists, more comfortable amenities and more choice over your treatment options.
Do check with your individual provider, but typically standard cataract (standard monofocal lens) is entirely covered by PMI, and for bespoke lens options, PMI contributes, and you pay an uplift fee.
To take advantage of using private medical insurance for your treatment at Optegra, all you have to do is provide us with your PMI membership number and do reach out to your medical insurance provider to get an authorisation code too. We can then take care of everything for you.
